Mid-Century Modern Christmas, Peoria, IL , Painting, Signed Don Hammontree
Painted in a clean, naive style, this artwork captures the essence of the old Central Illinois & Light Company building on Liberty Street in Downtown Peoria, IL during the festive Christmas season of the '70s. Executed with acrylics on a 16" x 20" canvas, it bears the signature of the talented artist. The rigid pattern work punctuated by overlaid trees and stars creates a focused segment of a larger scene, lending the view presented an almost abstracted quality.
Hailing from the blue-collar town of Peoria, Ill., Don Hammontree has evolved into a multifaceted artist, photographer, musician, and writer, currently based in Boston. His portfolio showcases vibrant paintings and captivating photographs, often highlighting streetscapes, architectural marvels, and vintage automobiles. His creative journey has taken him across New England, with exhibitions spanning from Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville in Massachusetts to Newport, Providence, and Pawtucket in Rhode Island.
Beyond visual arts, Hammontree is deeply ingrained in the music scene, captivating audiences with his original compositions from his three solo albums and as the guitarist/singer for the Cambridge-based power-pop trio, Bad Fogelberg. Excitingly, he's gearing up to record new material with the band in the near future.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Hammontree is a wordsmith, with his written work gracing the pages of various New England newspapers. Notably, he penned "Baptized in Formaldehyde," a provocative novel that he humorously describes as a “day-in-the-life, coming-of-age, sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll story for the whole family.”
