This oil on canvas painting by relative unknown artist Robert E. Gilbert (REG), depicts a detailed futuristic scene featuring a spaceship and an alien environment. The painting measures 12" by 18" (framed dimensions: 14 ½" by 18 ¾") and is signed with a small "G" in one corner. Thick, textured dots of paint create depth and detail across the surface.
REG was an artist from Jonesboro, TN, active from the 1940s through the 1980s. He contributed pen-and-ink illustrations to science fiction fan magazines during the 1950s–70s and created a large body of work in oil, pastels, and watercolor, often exploring sci-fi and outer space themes. This piece is in excellent condition. Gilbert continued experimenting with different styles throughout his life until his passing in 1993.
